Knit, Purl

Hey, does everyone like my new colors? I decided that since two, and possibly three, of my brothers are over at A@M that the colors were appropriate. Anyone object? If you do, that's just too bad, because I like it this way. So, pbtthhhh! Hehe.

Going in other directions... Dad is now requiring me and Annalee to ride our bicycles down the county road almost every day. It's okay, but after the first day, my bones are rather sore. Why do they make roads so bumpy? The road has some pretty spectacular views though, if you know where to look. One of these days, I'm going to take my camera with me and post the pictures on my other blog.

Moving on, Mom was ordering books for our school today. Ack! Also, she informed us of our new chore schedule. Another ack. Apparently this year, I'm starting Spanish and geography and a Lord of the Rings study. The study at least should be interesting.
Last night we were watching Two Towers. We got as far as the start of the Helm's Deep war. That would be where the orks charge the wall. I also finished my first ball of yarn on my knitting project. I've decided to call it a shawl, though Annalee seems determined that it WILL be called a poncho. Why? I really don't know.

So today's subject, knitting. To start off, I'll tell you the diffenece between stockinetter and knit or purl, just cause I can. The main difference is that stockinette (we'll call it stock.) is alternated knitting and purling. Now, stock. doesn't really look any different from regular knit or purl, but if you look really close, it appears to have a row of knit between every purl stich. That could be normal though. You'd have to ask my mother about that. I have told you about my project, which is all stock. It's really not hard at all. At one point Mom did a row on the shawl, and it looks different from mine because I knit through the back, which I'm told is unusual.
Anyone fans of Doctor Who? Well my mother found these patterns online for a knitted Dalek. The pattern was called Extermi-knit. Mom also found a pattern for the oversized scarf of the fourth doctor. Interesting I think.
So, Evelyn, how is your scarf coming? I assume that you've gotten somewhere, right? Well, good luck on it. I never got very far on any of the scarfs I started. Just recently, I got the farthest I ever got on any knitting project. Cool.
Comments are suggested. :)

Fixed

I fixed the colors. Do you think that they look better know? I couldn't remember exactly what the original ones were, so I just decided to wing it.
Maroon and gray are close enough, right? They better be.

P.S

Just in case you hadn't noticed, I changed the colors on my blog. Did anyone notice? Okay, rather obvious. Is it too much of an eyesore? Did you prefer the old colors? Tell me please! Take me out of my misery!

Wednesday Rain

I can't think of much that's happened today. It rained, but it rained yesterday too, we might need it but I find it rather depressing. However, after rain is very pretty, if the sun is shining that is.
Mom apparently has decided that blogging should be a part of school, or so my reliable sources tell me, 'hem'. So now I'm told, I'll have to go through the labors of appearing to tell you all about what has happened. Underline appearing.
So, today, it rained. Annalee and Mary insisted on waking me up earlier then I wanted to, and I awoke to find that it was raining. Which means a whole day shut up inside with the noisemakers. So, once I had finally decided get out of bed, they decided that as long as I was up, I might as well wake up all the way. They proceeded to scream and shriek, running through the house and doing such things as would be expected of monkeys.

Speaking of monkeys, last night I finished reading The Jungle Book. It was rather strange in parts, especially the bander-log (monkeys). Mary had just watched the Disney version of former said book and the differences between the book and the movie. For one thing, Baloo was not as jolly as Disney depicted him, and the wolves had a much greater part in the story. Also both Bagheera and Hathi were much more dignified in the book. In the book there were no vultures, though they were rather interesting characters, and the diferences go on and on. I think I preferred the book. So, they are two very different versions of the same story.
I also read a small book of short mysteries, the kind that have really small flaws that you have to look for. I figured out a few and decided that I might as well get some sleep.

Today has not been much but that's fine becuase I rather relish a nap when I can get one, IF I can get one. What with some certain small noisemakers, it's rather hard to get a nap around here unless they're napping too.

So, maybe more interesting things tomorrow.

Cats Galore

Yes, it's Monday. Thankfully, we haven't started school yet, but it's just a matter of time till Mom decides that we have to. I've also been thinking about this blog. It used to be my alternative to writing in a journal, but I've gotten way out of the habit of writing on it. Therefore, I'm going to ask Mom to make it a part of my school. I'm thinking, write in it twice a week at least, and writing about interesting things. So today's subject, if I decide to actually follow through with this, is going to be cats. Pretty much all cats, but some cats escpecially. Like which ones are which and how to identify them and so on.

Recently I've been reading a series of mystery books by Lillian Jackson Braun. They're about two Siamese cats, so I thought that Siamese especially would be intersting cats to write about. Here goes.

Siamese, as I've been told, are hard cats to catsit. Certainly my mother thinks so, she has told us stories concerning a certain Siamese who she catsat at one point. Apparently it was not the smartest of cats, as it would not use it's commode (cat litter box) at all. Also, Siamese are incessently loud and can annoy the most patient of people. Mom has a cat that we call her birthday presesnt because she found it on her birthday, and we are almost cerain that it is part Siamese simply because of it's loud and insistent voice. Insistent because it meows almost all the time it there are people nearby, and it becomes even more insistent if it wants to go outside or get more food. Such a cat can be quite a pain because of it's loud voice and small brains. But there is also another point of view on the Siamese.

In the books that I've been reading recently, the two main characters are both Siamese, one of which is thought to be remarkably smart because of it's crime solving capabilities. This cat's name is Kao Ko' Kung, Koko for short. And his female companion's name is Yumyum. No, don't ask me how they got they're names, becuase frankly, I don't know. So, two very different opinions and I haven't ever met a Siamese in person, so I wouldn't know which to believe.
Some other cats with known personalities are several of our own. They aren't pure bred or even close to it, so I call them mutts. Pardon the allusion to dogs. Anyway, we have three cats, and although only two of them are related, they all have the same color coats and one little white spot on their chest. Cyprus, our only female, is the confirmed queen of the house. Beamer the oldest, is our fat cat who lazes around most of the time. Then there's Schafur, the brat. He is the part Siamese I talked about earlier, and is also the most annoying of the three.

So, comments on cats are encouraged.
